LIV Mission & Strategy

The League of Independent Voters of Texas (LIV) was founded in 2013 as a non-profit, non-partisan 501c4 organization. Our mission is to empower independent Texas voters to achieve competitive elections; ending our two-party duopoly.

In so doing, we reject the left-center-right or conservative v. liberal paradigm. Our leaders come from all points of view. Together, we seek to minimize the power of monopolies to overly influence government in a world of growing scarcity, waste and destruction.

LIV advocates not for a particular political party or political ideology but for more experiments in cross-partisan organizing on so-called ‘bread and butter’ issues; protection of natural resources (particularly land and water) and to expand electoral options by enacting innovations in elections. For example, LIV founders helped enact the only (so far) independent citizens redistricting commission in Texas (2012, Austin municipal elections, called “10-1”).

We remain open to organizing on any issue but with the intention of bringing to bear all points of view (unfettered by special interest influence) to build consensus.

In essence, we here at LIV believe in small “d” democracy, populism and pluralism. To us R LIV democracy is not a spectator sport. Use it, or lose it and join us!
