LIV proudly announces a five-star rating for Paul Pape in one of the hottest Texas House runoffs in the Republican Party primary.
Early voting in this runoff is May 16-20. Election Day is Tuesday, May 24.
Pape has been Bastrop County Judge for 10 years. As such, LIV knows him well. He's been a strong water ally for those who live in the new House District 17 -- Bastrop, Burleson, Caldwell, Lee and Milam counties. He has pledged his support for legislation to achieve an audit and cutback of the Vista Ridge/San Antone Hose water pipeline. Pape will also push for conservation of the resource and fair and equal protections for landowners who wish NOT to sell their water. See more about the race at Independent Texans' news page.

It wasn’t easy for the candidates. They had to fill out our extensive 17 question survey. The survey is for candidates and voters.
Our survey is located here, so you and any Texas voter can take it too.
We also reviewed their contribution and expenditure reports. And we looked at their website and social media pages. We also attended other organizations' forums to assess their consistency. And we gave additional credit to candidates focused on the issues of greatest impact to their district.

The Gallup poll has tracked party identification since 2004. Self-declared independents (no party) remain the plurality of voters at about 40%. LIV's survey is about what unites voters across the partisan divide, including independent Texans.
